Venus is the second inner planet of the solar system and the closest neighboring planet to the Earth. This proximity makes it, next to the moon, the brightest and most striking star in the night sky. Since it only shows itself at the beginning and end of a night, it is also called the evening or morning star. Sometimes Venus is called Earth's twin, because both planets have a similar structure - but with a temperature of about 480 °C it offers no possibility of life. Its surface is characterized by mountains and valleys and covered with thousands of volcanoes, which often have so-called pancake domes with huge diameters. The atmosphere of Venus is permanently opaque because it is enveloped by a dense cloud layer, which gives it a characteristic yellowish appearance.
