Uranus is the 7th planet in the solar system and belongs, together with its neighbor Neptune, to the ice giants. The gas planet has no real surface, but consists mainly of swirling liquids. Its fascinating blue-green color is due to methane gas in its bitterly cold atmosphere; temperatures of about -220 °C are common here, and furiously fast winds and whirlwinds blow. Uranus is the only planet in the solar system that rotates on its side. This means that its equator is almost at a right angle to its orbit, probably due to a past collision with a large object, and causes Uranus to have the most extreme seasons of any planet in the solar system.
